I'm getting my CCW permit.

I've got CCW class on Saturday. Anybody else on here have theirs? If so, was the class informative?

the class is informative to a point. they cater it to people who have never handled guns. to the people who have had them in their cribs as play toys, its more of a formality.

It's a one day, 8 hour class. After that you have to go the Sheriff's to apply and get fingerprinted. Then you get to go to the DMV.

All said and done it probably is a 1, maybe 2 week process and costs about $225. That figure includes the class, the fee to the County and the price of a new driver's license with an endorsement. Also, the fee differs by where you live. The City charges $100 and the County charges $76. I believe the permit lasts 3 years and costs $50 to renew.

After the class, which involves a shooting portion, you have to go fill out an application at the Sheriffs and get finger printed. Once that's done, it takes 15-45 days for your permit to come in. I'd recommend NOT getting a new license with the endorsement on it, as it makes people jumpy when looking at it. Get the card that states it on it, but leave it off your license. The point of CCW though is that no one else knows you have it.
