the point i was making is that a lot of people put waaaay too much effort into praying that god changes stuff. get out of church and make it happen. if any church asks for your money, its a scam. i stated nothing even close to holidays being legit. we are lied to everyday since we are born, wether it be religion, the govt., or some scandalous girl. believe in yourself, not a book.

I sure hope this was some spam email you got and not something you actually wrote, Zach. It's way off base.

It is correct that modern Christianity doesn't adhere to the Old Testament as law. So that really just throws his whole entire arguement out the window. But why does the church stand so strongly against homosexuality? Its not just mentioned in Leviticus 18:22. If the writer would have looked into the subject more, they would have found several scriptures in the New Testament referencing as to why the church is so strongly against homosexuality. The main one being Romans 1:26-27...

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

And for this writer to go on generalizing the Christian community by considering them to all be religious extremists is just ridiculous. This is obviously someone who is not only one-sided, but ignorant.

I'm not trying to preach to anyone here. All I'm saying is don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Tattoos. No tattoos. Leviticus 19:28 reads, "You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord."

Not even a little butterfly on your ankle. Or Thug Life across your abdomen. Or even, fittingly enough, a cross.
To quote liberally from another website:

Leviticus 19:26-31 deals with pagan practices and God's prohibitions against adopting those practices. In verse 28, God is warning the Jewish people about a pagan practice at funerals, where pagans would mutilate/mark themselves to appease their false gods. The pagans hoped that by cutting themselves and marking images/symbols of idols on their bodies, that they would obtain favour in the afterlife from their false gods, both for themselves and for those who just died.

Still, many who read the Bible will not take into account historical considerations or the full context of Leviticus 19:28.

Yet, there is a very real problem with using this verse in an anti-tattoo argument. One cannot believe that Jesus is Lord and He came to save the world through grace and love and still accept this verse as applicable to us today. It sounds harsh, but it is true. Why? The answer is simple. Christ gave us a New Law, one that supersedes the Old Testament Law, which includes Leviticus 19:28.

Just thought I would add that.

In regard to the first statement,

Those individuals are few and far between. I am pro-life for a myriad of reasons. However, to address the recent murder of Dr. Tiller, the perpetrator of that crime was clearly mentally ill. He was prescribed medications that he did not take. Anyone that is truly pro-life is also opposed to the death penalty, murder, and unnecessary war among other things.

Most of my friends are anti-religion. I totally understand why they believe this. However, I also work for the largest private provider of social services in the state. Last I checked, there is not an atheist or humanist charity that addresses poverty or immigration on that scale. All without proselytizing to our clients. Religion is a wonderful thing, as long as you act in a manner that is consistent with the teachings. The problem is most "Christians" act no different than their neighbors, yet proclaim that they are saved and somehow better than others. If you are going to talk the talk, you must walk the walk. To summarize, faith without works is dead.

/Why yes, I have been drinking wine. Funny you should ask.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

what the hell is that?
Christians have been celebrating Jesus' birth on December 25 since at least the early fourth century. The first evidence of its observance is in Rome in 336 AD. {1} The earliest Christians do not appear to have commemorated the nativity, but only the baptism and resurrection of Christ and the deaths of the martyrs.

In fact, some early Christians, most notably Origen of Alexandria {2}, strongly opposed the celebration of Christ's birth. Pointing out that only Pharaoh and Herod celebrate their birthdays in the Bible {3}, Origen argued that birthdays were for pagans, not Christians. Jehovah's Witnesses follow the same reasoning today in rejecting both Christmas and celebration of birthdays.
In addition to the date, other aspects of Christmas owe their origins to pagan celebrations, such as the Yule log, the tree, gift-giving, and lights. Although sometimes maligned today, the Christian appropriation of pagan customs would likely have been regarded positively by early Christians as a victory for Christ over paganism and a way to win more souls. This general strategy seems evident in the choice of December 25, as outlined above.
