For those that haven't seen this yet, XBox is developing their own recognition device called Natal. The device makes it so that YOU are the controller. It looks really cool if it there are no bugs when it is released. Video here.

No offense but I TOTALLY don't see that working in the near future. Not to mention a lot of stuff in that video seemed completely unnecessary. Like when the girls dad was changing the tires in the pits.. he was doing some pretty crazy moves. But you know, no experience needed, only life experience

That maybe true. I've played a lot of video games throughout my life and would like to think that I have done a decent job at keeping up with upcoming ideas. One of the big things with gaming is to make it realistic. Thats what gaming companies go for. Look at first person shooters. When the first one came out, you could only move the player left, right, foward, and backward. (X and Y scale) Now you can do the aforementioned and move the head, jump, and have other things like ragdoll effects. (XYZ scales and weight/gravity scales) Not to mention, even though games have better porcessing speeds, graphics cards, and even TVs, look at the players faces and detail. The realism is still one of the biggest things with it comes to making a game. This is just the next step towards that realism factor. It's a good idea/concept and if it actually works, great. It's probably going to be expensive when it comes out. I'm still trying to figure out how it works. It almost seems like it uses sonar or IR, but then it looks like it uses a camera. Maybe it uses a combination of the three.chunney;184123 wrote:No offense but I TOTALLY don't see that working in the near future. i could see it using a combination... kind of like taking a picture and painting over it... it makes it looked really, but at the same time you can tell a difference... i dont know if that made any sense, but it worked in my head. basically it would recognize your body/face and then mimic you movements using either IR or sonar... more likely to be IR instead of sonar though... but i guess both would work. IR waves move faster than sonar waves.
but nonetheless its a pretty sick idea.

You will not see anything that works as well as that thing does in the video doing all those things for at least another 10 years.
It's cool none-the-less.
