Car purchase advice, if you were me

Post by GTI-Guy »

Ugh! I had my mind set on Civic, but yes, you guys make some nice points about the Integra ... they'd be lucky dudes to be rolling in one of those for their first car.

Durable too and I know my way around it mechanically for the basic stuff ... owned the 1st Gen when it first came out, and really, really drove the urine out of it for 160k miles ... they def came more well equipped safety wise versus the Civics of the same time frame. I completely forgot about the 4 door version, too, bet those prices have sag'd nicely versus the 2 door ... I need to do some work online to see what availability and pricing looks like

Thanks for all the thought provoking input!

Car purchase advice, if you were me

If you have time which you do look around and watch for the right deal. I spent 6-8 months looking for one. I figured I would onle be able to get a LS/GS/RS for what I wanted to spend 4000-4500. Until one day my buddy called me with a number off a teg that was in a parking lot FS. Less than a week later I was the owner of a 1 owner 98 GSR for 4600. This was in November 2006.

Moral of the story is dont limit yourself to listings on the net or in the paper. Put the word out you are looking to your friends and have them keep an eye out as well.

The reason you are getting a bunch of info on tegs is bc the last 3 that have commented all own teg and we all think they are amazing cars lol. They are great cars and about just as much as a civic. If you get the ls you'll get power windows and locks and abs, and they will have cloth and won't have the vtec. Also like getteg said, deals are out there ya just gotta wait for em. I think 3500 was too much for mine but I needed a car, but thats life lol.

btw I hear ya on the strategic retreat lol

get a civic tegs are for girls lol but i agree you have some time so just sit and wait the one you are looking for will almost find you thats how my two hatchs were. look around for what you want dont settle for less cause you wont be happy. pick up the autotrader when you go to the grocery store and flip through it, keep an eye out on the internet, tell your friends, and look around sometimes you will spot one forsale on the side of the road in a parking lot when you arnt looking

actually now that somone has mentioned it... i have seen a GSR 4 door for sale in kirkwood. he goes to the YMCA like everyday. paint needs to be redone pretty badly, oxidation is a bitch. and there is a lot of rust on both quarter panels. you could probably pick that one up for cheap, especially considering the driver is older.

its the 94-97 body style DB7.

comes with fat fives, and a bunch of rust and oxidation
i will get his number if you are interested.

i know it isnt really going to be a step up for your kids, but it would be a sweet deal for you if not for your kids

If Tegs are for women, then I'll get a sex change! Hey, Jay (whoa, that rhymes!), yes, if you can get that guy's number, absolutely I would like to check it out

I know an SCCA guy that can get me some willfit body pieces cheap, so body panel rust isn't an issue, and heck Clay is building his own paint booth in his garage

Just to confirm, we're talkin' this car, correct?

EP3's (2002-2005 Civic Si's) are getting pretty damn cheap, just take a quick look through craigslist. They handle great stock too.
