Car purchase advice, if you were me

As in starting to keep an eye open for the right car for my kids when they turn 16, actually 15 for learner's permit ... they're almost 13 now so not so far away, and sure as heck it's a great time now to buy

I'm rusty on my Civic generations and what each added, but what the car would have ta' have would be

Front Driver & Front Passenger Airbags

ABS

If this can be also an Si, that's a bonus, but I guess more for me than them as I'd rather we make handling enhancements to the base engine than give them the extra ponies

Cost wise, can do a higher level model ... Dad (me) pays half, and each kicks in their share of the rest

So what years / gen of Civic fits this? Any other insight appreciated, thx

i think 5th gen (92-95) and up si's do not sure ive never had a civic with ABS so i dont know for sure

lol what i meant to say was they do have air bags but im not sure about ABS iv had 3 5th gen civic and they all had airbags on both sides but none of them had ABS but i also have never had a si so im unsure if they do or not im sure someone else will chime in and let you know for sure

The vast majority of civics, (00 and down at least) did not come with ABS, and I believe Honda started putting passenger and driver airbags in 94 and up, although it maybe 93 and up.

I had abs in my 98 civic. I would look into 99-00 Si's, personally i think they are good platforms to start from.

Front driver and passenger airbags were optional in '93, standard in '94 and up. ABS is kind of hit and miss. I think it was always optional as of '94 and up, but only on EX and Si models.

Thanks for the hard facts ... I can live without the ABS, but the Wife would never allow them in a car without the airbags
