No Longer a Virgin to this Club!

Post by GTI-Guy »

Met 06sik20z3 to play around with some road racing technique, heel & toe stuff etc then went back to check out his garage set up, cars in progress, remodeling in progress

This means I'm a REAL CLUB member now that have met someone face2face!

Nice to meet ya Clay! Wish I had my act half as together as you do at your age!

Sent you a note on the Ulimate Pedals, for easier heel & toe and some info on upcoming track events ... also going to do some thinking about that car you're rebuilding

Thanks again!

Thanks for the welcome and will look forward to meeting more of you

Hopefully 06sik20z3 will chime in that I'm not a pedophile or anything for wanting to hangout with guys half my age

(See what happens to you when you become 48 and most people your age are boring and constrained)

Anyhow's ... I HATE the term "heel and toe" cause that's really a misnomer / throwback to when the brake pedal on old cars was located much lower and on the floor of the car, and the gas pedal was much higher ... therefore, heel on the brake and toes on the gas

Check out the link below ... I like to describe it as left half / right half downshifting. There's a good walk thru with pics there, and BE PATIENT ... first practice "blipping" the throttle with your foot on the brake, car parked in neutral, then work up from there practicing in your neighborhood 3rd to 2nd downshifts ... it's just one of those things that initially will feel like a total "reprogramming" but will become 2nd nature. It'll take a month or so to get proficient, so don't hate yourself for struggling

Turns out can't make the AutoX School, but will be at all these events http://www.stlpdx.com/Schedule__Calendar_.html plus a BMW and Porsche club event or two

A huge thanks to bob for sparing his lunch to teach me how to drive my car properly. in the hour he was yelling and screaming at me lol i did learn alot. i still have a long way to improve on the technique "heel toe" and hand control. i appreciate you taking the time to help me and the literature. hopefully the next time it wont be so rainy and i can show you what a real car (shot to the gti) can do.

hmmm... i didnt know that is what heel toe was. i guess i have ever really thought about it. that is how my dad thought me how to drive a stick tho. he always said to downshift when slowing down but to rev match before letting the clutch pedal out, but without letting of the gas...

Thank You DAD!

Yelling & Screaming eh? Well I guess I figured you could take it! No offense taken on the "shot to the GTI" ... I'm driver centric, not car centric!
