that thing is not gonna get you laid.
I think it was a bad move to change the name from the Ford 500. That name atleast sounded classy. I guess Ford figured if they change the name to Taurus we would be in lines with boners to buy a rebadged shitbox.
BTW Michael Jackson died....wasn't this a thread like 5 months ago?

Its 1989 Again....
My family had a 1st Gen Taurus that was bought new from the dealership in 1991. By 2001 it had 130,000 miles on it gone through two transmissions and barely ran any more, we gave it to charity and they had to bring a wrecker out to get it. We also had a 87 Integra bought new from the dealership my dad drove it untill he bought his Legend 6-speed. Then I got it when I was in Highschool. I drove the piss out of it untill I bought my 96 Hatch in 2001. Gave it back to my parents, my mom drove it until the ac quit in 2004. Sold it to guy who drove it until somewhere around 250,000 miles when the engine finally gave out in 2007.
How many 1st or 2nd gen Taurus's do you see on the road today? If they were the number one sellers.
How many Accord's or Camry's of the same model years do you see on the road today?

my 91 has 150k on it, 80k of those are hard use. hrm trans is just NOW giving me issues. and i still drive it daily
my 95 has 243k on it before the motor was blown due to going lean on the spray. stock trans still works good in that car now with the 3.2 installed.
keiths 95 has 336k on it.. guess what stock as a rock.
is all relative to the owner of the car
your argument is moot.

'98 CSVT.. stock

You make a good point, but you also need to consider a few others things.96Hatched;193036 wrote:My family had a 1st Gen Taurus that was bought new from the dealership in 1991. Think about the type of people who buy Taurus'. kikkin' and I were just talking about how back in the late '80's-early '90's, they were just a throw away car. Much like Kia's/Hyundai's are today. No one gave a shit about maintaining them. At the time, who cared? They were cheap enough to buy over and over again. Half the Ford cars that I work on at my 'shop' don't even use the right oil in them. And that's why every time I work on those cars, they have nearly no oil in them due to consumption.
(Most) Honda owners on the other hand take a little bit more pride in their cars and by doing so, keep their maintenance up to date. Repairs are also a little cheaper, in my eyes, when compared to most Ford products. And I see one of your key points about the Taurus is that your family replaced two transmissions. Have you ever seen the TSB's that Honda and Acura have out on their automatic V6 transmissions and manual 6-speeds? Just take a look at them, it's ridiculous.
In the end, 80% it's really the owner that determines the quality of the car, not the car itself.

Actually, it was a good move in that the Taurus name has meaning. While "we" think of a Taurus as a disposable, mediocre car, the buying public thinks about how many they see on the road, and translate that into meaning "well if all of these people have them, then it must be good". Whether it is or not. They tried Five-hundred in a lame and pointless attempt to upscale the model, and shed the "Taurus" stereotype that we give the car, forgetting that they are trying to market the car to as many people as possible. It just didn't work the way they wanted it to.Nat X;192949 wrote:I think it was a bad move to change the name from the Ford 500. That name atleast sounded classy. Mazda tried ditching the Miata name when the 3rd gen came out for the '06 MY. Everyone still called it "Miata"...they added the name back for '07.
As far as what I think of the new SHO...saw one at our Ford store a week and a half ago...absolutely MASSIVE car. Whatta boat!! It looks okay, but the belt-line(that's the top of the doors/dash/rear deck for those without terminology) is HIGH...and that gives you a 'trapped' feeling that no one should want in a sporty car. And the seats...I swear I've seen that foam and layout elsewhere...oh yeah...Expedition! So unsupportive. They might aswell have used a front bench seat.
Oh yeah and apparently you can get this Ecoboost drivetrain in a Flex. Seriously.
