Proffesional Help

Post by Nat X »

There are alot of young working proffesionals on this site, and I need advice. There is a co-worker of mine, lets call him Dave, who has worked for my company years, and in my industry for decades. He is on the road, but works/reports to my office.

Now I work in the corporate world, which means always doing more that your paid for. When he comes in off the road he just sits on his ass and doesn't help anyone with anything. Now I like to sit around and bs as much as the next guy, but if my fellow co-workers need anything I will help them as much as possible, the same goes with everyone else at work besides Dave.

Knowing how much he gets paids and how I can barely pay my bills on time, this make me anger. The question is how can I bring this up to my boss without sounding like a whiny under paid bitch?

call him out on it.

tell him it would be nice to have the help as he isnt doing anything at the time.

i like sitting on my ass too, but all be damned if i let my guys get overwhelmed because im lazy.

if you say something to him, and still nothing changes, then bring it to the boss .

tell bossman that if the guy is just going to sit about and do nothing to please stay out of the "workspace" as it brings down moral when someone is just sitting watching others work.

start off by going up to your boss and asking for a word.

ask him a question like do you remember when you were in my posiition and there was that one guy that was just a pain in the ass, half ass douche and there was not much you could do b/c you were on the same scale as him. just reissure him your not a douche trying to get him in trouble but you just want the company to be as productive as possible and he is interfering with it or some b.s. but ask him to watch his work habits and compare it to any other guys it will open his eyes and he will pick up on it.

thats what i would do

Ask him to go outside real quick, tazer him, throw him in a giant duffle bag, throw him in the trunk of a car, then rent that car out to a customer...

On a more serious note, I would talk with him personally about it first because you don't want to be a douche and just go straight to the boss. Go to the boss if you can't solve it by talking

Thanks for the comments guys, I've said things to him indirectly and directly in the past, and have told my immediate managers and they seem not to do anything.

Call corporate and give a complaint about your particular office

if dave mclazy doesn't get his shit together after you talk to him, then i'd go to the boss. if that doesn't work, i'd call corporate. and even see if other people in the office will back u up. there's safety in numbers.

if all else fails....stick a zombie on his ass.

I use to have a guy in my "workgroup" named George (seriously he is apiece of shit and i dont care who knows it) and the situation was about the same. He made a little more than me and had some seniority. My direct manager knew he was lazy but just yelled at him to do work... no real punishment for doing nothing. Well one day I knew George was doing nothing as usually and I saw a corporate manager walking around everyone area "observing" and after me he would have gotten to George's area. I politly asked him into my area and told him basically something like this "I bust my ass as hard or harder than most people here and I'm ok with that because I like to help with production. When you walk around to Georges area please take note of his slack."

He thanked me and continued on. George got "written up" and a few weeks later when caught slacking bigtime again was fired.

Nate, you've taken it to your direct managers and they've done nothing. Alert someone who gets bonuses for producing good number (the ol pocket book is always a selling point) I'm sure he will at least be repremanded.

dont feel bad nate, that shit happens in the construction field all the time too. i cant stand half the people i work with because they dont know what the hell they're doing, showing up to work tweaked on meth making the whole job dangerous. while they make considerably more money than me. and everything i say just gets ignored because im the "young guy". my best advice is dont worry about him so much, and try to make yourself look as good as you can.
