after a little research, i decided to throw some E85 in my crx, so with some help from boner, we drained the tank. then i proceeded to dump in 5 gallons of E85, which i purchased for $2.99 a gallon, the only change i made to the car was the chip i was running, basically i took the tune i had and upped the fuel 30% copied and pasted the ignition and fuel tables to ng60 code using turboedit and had rickles burn me a couple chips. i am very happy with the results at first the car loped like it had a huge cam then after a minute it faded and idled just like it had before i only drove it around the block a couple times and it seemed to run just fine even better than it did before (for those who dont know, the car is a 90 crx with a d15b7, rhb5 turbo@10psi). i will keep this thread updated as i drive the car more, i plan on using it to drive back and forth to work and small trips around town obviously to save money on gas. is it tuned no, do i care no, i hardly have any money in the car so what do i have to lose?
a few fun facts about E85:
it takes more fuel to achieve stoich with E85 (gasoline is 14.7 while E85 is 9.7) which is why added 30% more fuel.
E85 is around 105 octane cost $2.99 a gallon, 93 octane gasoline cost $4.19 a gallon
it doesnt smell bad
you will actually get 20-25% less mpg but it cost less than gasoline

Interesting idea. I'm anxious to see the results.
Ribs. I had ribs for lunch, that's why I'm doing this.

I know you are doing this out of curiousity, but lets look at this from a math point of view.
Premium costs ~$4.19
E85 costs ~$2.99
= ~30% difference in cost.
Takes more fuel to achieve stoich. You stated 30% more fuel added to the fuel map. Also, you said that you get about a 20-25% decrease in MPG.
~30% diff. in cost < 30% more fuel + 20-25% decrease in MPG
In my mind, it sounds like it evens out and your just going to have to fill the take more times.

all of the numbers i posted where what other people experienced and very general. in my reading about converting i came across many statements not unlike yours, like you said though, curiosity has gotten the better of me. i plan on keeping track of my fuel mileage and comparing it to what i got in my Si to see if it is indeed worth it...SweetEBPSi;120169 wrote:I know you are doing this out of curiousity, but lets look at this from a math point of view.

Hmmm, I wonder how E85 + Nitrous will do on the carb, double cooling of hte intake charge.

probably pretty good, prepare to buy a large fuel pump...btlfedgolf;120182 wrote:Hmmm, I wonder how E85 + Nitrous will do on the carb, double cooling of hte intake charge.

Don't get me wrong. I am honestly currious on how this will turn out.stolle;120177 wrote:all of the numbers i posted where what other people experienced and very general. in my reading about converting i came across many statements not unlike yours, like you said though, curiosity has gotten the better of me. i plan on keeping track of my fuel mileage and comparing it to what i got in my Si to see if it is indeed worth it...

So did you have to upgrade any of the fuel lines or did you just drain and fill the tank with E85 and run it with the stock fuel setup (minus injectors of course)?

To produce E85 is more of a pain than most people think. I was reading an article about it in Time and it you would have to grow enough corn to feed one person for an entire year to fill one tank of an suv. it didnt say how big but I would imagine around 20 gallons.
