would this do the job for setting boost at 5? If so how do you tell what psi your at?

researched and found out internal is set at 11.5psi and there is different ways to control the boost... via boost controllers seems to be easiest and best way to get what im looking at.

that would work for a boost controller, but you would still need to run at least 12psi to open the wastegate and get boost, unless you did what is previously stated, and disassemble the wastegate and put a 5lb spring in it. or what i said and ugrade the internals a tad bit to run 12psi safely and do that. you'd get more power and the possiblity of future mods as well.

or get an external wastegated turbo

You can't turn down the boost on a turbo using an 11.5 pound spring. The lowest psi you can achieve is 11.5psi. Thats why you'd need an external wastegate and a 5 pound spring, not a boost controller.

if it is a stock 14b the wastegate SHOULD open at 7psi. the dsm's they came off run 10-12psi because they have a factory boost controller. if it is set for 12 or whatever, you can get a new internal wastegate actuater from a junkyard, or off ebay thatll open at 7psi. your stock internals will last just as long at 7 as they will at 5........if you have a halfway decent tune.
heres a list of junkyard turbos you can get the actuater off http://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/inde ... opic=27392

If I was going to the trouble to turbo my car I would run more than 5 psi. :twocents:

Meh, I disagree..I'd rather have him experience with the turbo, learn, blow his engine, and learn some more then put new wheels on.
