As far as gas stations go, QuikTrip is where its at job wise. They pay the best and their benefits FAR outshine the competition. If you stick with it QT can be a career, not just a job.Midori;274269 wrote:lame

"Another flaw in the human character is that everybody wants to build and nobody wants to do maintenance."
Rollin on 18 wheels all day every day.
94 Honda Accord, the daily- rebuilt F22 VTEC, OBX exhaust, Ractive header, stage 1 clutch, lowered. Temporarily on lease to a friend.
85 Ford F250, the project- 460 big block, now driveable!

I'm THE Mazda/Subaru new car inventory guy at Lou Fusz Mazda/Subaru where I've worked since March '04. I also detail, drive customers, and drive on dealer trades(local and long-distance truck and trailer). Basically get things done and have a good time doing it. lol Sold Mazdas for 4 months back in '07... I enjoy what I do now more than that.
I also buy and sell cars, rarely, but I should include it as it adds to my income.

How much money does one need to live comfortably? I closed on a house in May, have 3 useable cars and 1 project car and 1 fix 'n sell, and have never been close to living paycheck to paycheck. I make far less than $50,000 a year.exnissanguy;274050 wrote: Go to school kids, or its hard to break 50k, I just got lucky

You are not included in that saying. How long did it take for you to save up for a down payment on that house? Also, buying a small house now-a-days is cheaper than renting. You have 3 usable cars, but how long have you had them? Hence, they have been paid off for a long time. Also, you can work on cars. Not trying to dis you, but you aren't the social norm.Mazkid;274302 wrote:How much money does one need to live comfortably? That's the long-hand way of saying "You're Jewish so it's instinct to save money and coupon your way through life". lolSweetEBPSi;274306 wrote:You are not included in that saying. I've always been saving money knowing that I'd need it later... and yeah, I've had 2 of my cars for years but my drivable Protege5 was just this winter. I've never owed or had a loan on anything except this house... and I wouldn't consider a 3 bed 2.5 bath 1,7xx sq ft on a quarter acre to be all that small but I could be mistaken.
Sometimes I wish I was the social norm... except in this aspect.

If its just you I think you can get by on less than 50K. I have my GSR, my Pickup, a 4 wheeler and a house (3 bed and soon to be 2 bath on 1/2 acre) and make less than 45K a year. However I do feel it from time to time as I have made some bad purchase decisions and it has caused me to live check to check, but not to the point where I cant go out and enjoy life.
If you add a child into the mix I would assume the amount you need to live comfortably would go up quite a bit.

Even though I know you are Jewish, by all means, I wasn't calling you that. You just know how to manage money better than a lot of people.

I do more than fine, i work on average about 50 hours a week year round sometimes 80 to 90 in the summer. I put 8 percent into my 401k every two weeks, paid for my own wedding, paying for our late honeymoon. Ive put over 25k into various toy cars ive owned, and we still save a good couple hundred each paycheck. Its not that I live above my means, lol, im a walmart jeans and goodwill tshirt kind of guy. Its that fact that i was raised extremely poor with one parent in a single bedroom apt, and I want to have something to give to my children when i pass, and I want my wife to not have to work and we would still live comfortably even with a kid or two in the future. Hence why im almost thirty and although i make a great wage now, Im stuck. Thats why im getting my bachelors, cuz an associates that i have wont cut it. I can only make the union mandated increase in our contract which is usually about 4 to 5 percent. at that rate ill never make enough for my wife to stay at home in the next 6 years.SweetEBPSi;274306 wrote:You are not included in that saying. I paid rent to live with my mother at 15, and had my own place at 18 so, i didnt have the opportunity like most to save there ass off while living with there parents. I sold my drag car to help pay for a wedding, and ive been projectless or about 5 years, so soon ill be getting back into that lol
