CG tranny onto d16z6 - everything you wanted to know
NEWS FLASH!
the ZC intermediate shaft will not work! the hole pattern is the same and line up side to side but are about 3/4" off up and down. and not only that it doesnt sit flat on the block. so i used the 86-89 CG intermediate shaft. it sat flat and one of its mounting holes line up on the block. the other 2 were a little off but i modified it all to work.
i went ahead and bought a 90-93 integra drivers side axle it fit perfectly. was the exact size needed.
now on the passenger side i used the stock oem d-series axle that came out of my hatch and i put the CG inner cup onto the axle. still the same length. but something is wierd because the axle seems really short. i have to almost pull the bearings out of the inner cup when its bolted in. which i dont understand at all because its the axle that originally came out of my hatch and the cg tranny sits the same exact distance away from the hub as my d-series transmissions did...thoughts? i know the inner doesnt move really at all but with the bearings sticking out of the cup about 3/8" just cant be right or is it?
the other thing now is the clutch. i have bled and bled and bled this damn thing and the slave cylinder only moves the clutch arm 3/8" when the pedal is fully depressed. and its not near enough because my pedal is really soft and its a action pressure plate. i went to look at my crx and its clutch arm moves 3/4". thats twice as much as this one is moving. now what?

wow.....alot of problems tonight.
first off, the slave cylinder travels the right amount needed...FOR A HYDRO TRANNY!! you see a cable clutch tranny has a L shaped clutch arm instead of a straight clutch arm like hydro trannies. whats that matter you ask?? well lets say you push on one end of a straight clutch arm 1 inch. the other end of that clutch arm is also going to move 1 inch. now with a L shaped arm the ratio is not 1:1. if you move the cable end of the clutch arm 1 inch, its only going to move maybe a half inch on the other end.
now who was it that suggested using the slave cylinder on a cable tranny??
im a little pissed about all this. im stupid for not thinking first. i can honestly say i have NO idea what i could do to fix this. the slave cylinder has to travel at least twice as much as it does now, how you would do that, i dont know. im stuck.
second. i went to start the car and it was locked up. couldnt even turn it by hand. took the starter off and still couldnt turn it. it appears the cg tranny doesnt like my 2mm larger z6 clutch. the tranny went onto the engine fine and sat flush so i thought it was good. i was wrong. the clutch (probably the pressure plate) was rubbing on the casing i guess. there was no way i was taking the trans back off if i didnt have to lol... so i loosened the tranny to engine bolts and unbolted the trans mount and let the trans have about a 1/8" gap from the engine. started it up and it made lots of noises. but within a minute whatever it was rubbing on wore itself down and no more noise and no longer locked up. problem solved haha.

anyways. the cg trans swap is COMPLETE and driving!
something i should have done from the beginning. and WAY easier...and cheaper.
DO NOT use the pull type slave.

so thats that. this was all a real pain in the ASS! but i guess thats because i was the first to do this. should be alot easier for the next person that does it.

all i can say is WOW. its a totally different car. i dont know if its the new tranny, clutch, or lsd, or intermediate shaft but i can definetly say its noticably ALOT quicker and with way less traction problems on the street. if it isnt a 10 second street car now then i dont know what is.. not only that its alot less jerky than any d-series trans i ran..real smooth. i cant wait to get to the track.....and get kicked out lol.

small update for people that will be using a electric VSS
you know how i had to shim a d-series electric vss..well i guess for some reason it shaved a little of the teeth on the plastic vss gear. i think it was because the differential cg speedo gear is steel and then the d-series vss gear is plastic and d-series speedo gwears on tjhe diffs are plastic. so plastic and steel dont mix. i noticed my speedo was off about 8-10mph. well found out a b-series uses steel gear and its wider and would line up perfect like the stock cg vss. much better! works good now.
