I agree 100% steph, what good is a site if you cant ask questions and get an answer about a topic that the site is based on!99preludesh;112044 wrote:A couple of us were discussing this last night. Stlhondas is a cool place but I just dont see enough tech. And when someone asks a question and then someone else responds with "search" thats cool and all but the more we answer questions for people the more friendly we sound and the more information we build up on the site not to just rely on ONE thread.
I know a couple of other sites im on if I search say for instance "ATTS light" I get ATLEAST 2 pages of information. Its good to read through the threads and gain more knowledge and the more I read about it the more it sticks in my head.
I just feel that this site isnt "tech" enough and its more for a hangout place. Which is cool but I would honestly rather here about the sweet write up someone did on whatever then the funny pictures thread. BUT thats just me.

Ok so engines and body work aside, why not have some write ups on things that your typical shadetree/weekend mechanic could do with a few tools that arent as complicated as engines and bodywork. Things people are not/would not be afraid to do them selves if they had a little guidence (expecially from someone local not 2000 miles away) without having to ask a question and wait for a response.
Maybe how to do suspension work, bleed brakes or clutch, change tranny fluid, change bushings, simple detailing tips, etc.....

Stuff you just mentions is perfect seriously it doesnt have to strictly be HUGE modifications the small stuff so just about anyone can learn and do it.
+10 for you getteg!

This thread clearly isn't accomplishing anything, not your fault Steph.
A write-up doesn't have to be planned ahead of time, if you do a modification to your car just take pictures along the way, post them up and explain what you did and why. It's as simple as that... alot of people have build threads, all of these can have valuable knowledge in them for newer members, for example alot of folks are running LS/VTEC or CR/VTEC set-ups... I think the point Steph is trying to convey is that we need to build up a "library" of information to draw people to the site . On more prominent sites the new members that ask a question that's already been asked before the general response is "SEARCH NEWB!" or other needless comments, but on here we should be different and try to stay away from that since we're all pretty local we can be a little bit friendlier.
And John, I think you should do a nitrous write-up mainly dealing with Hondas.

/\ This is what I'm talking about, someone with the knowledge to back up a write up. I would imagine you could explain/argue your point with experience not more internet searching.LowePerf;112125 wrote:I could write tech articles all day. I just don't really know what would be interesting to you guys. If you have a subject your interested in and can't find the info you want why not post it up and someone with the information could write something. The good ones could then be stickied in the right section.
The only real problem with this is you usually have that one guy that thinks he knows everything post in the thread something totally wrong, then you spend 10 pages trying to defend yourself. So maybe a little mod action cleaning up these threads would be in order. Or lock them, but then nobody could ask questions about something they didn't understand. Just my .02

And wouldnt you know the VERY first link posted on there is the one I posted on here CRAZY...why cause its VERY usefull for the people that were interested
Yeah and the thing is nate I knew about EVERYTHING I posted in that n/a h22 thread, so I in theory could have written it myself, which I couldnt say for more than a lot of people on this site with most cars.
Like I said earlier in the thread about a handful of people actually know what they are doing when it comes to cars. But a simple oil change right up is easy, like in your case for instance, instead of taking it to firestone you could do it yourself since there would be a write-up.
I could think of numerous things to do an easy write-up on that would help tons of people out
* Intake Manifold Change
* Valve Cover Gasket Change
* Oil Change
* Brake Drum Change
* How to remove your A/C for the people that think its useless
* Strut removal and install
* Flat blacking a panel, since flat seems to be the in thing now
* Simple tune-up
And the list goes on. it doesnt have to be HUGE projects just simple stuff to help the not so "handy" people out if they need to do something to the car.

i agree 100% with you steph throughout this whole thread. the write ups dont have to be about how to build a certain set-up you are using so peopel can just copy-cat the setup you worked so hard on, but maybe a handful of write-ups on how to do a few things you had to do during that certain build. or even the simplest stuff that a lot of people dont know how to do. like steph said, changing your oil, replacing brakes, detailing a car, cleaning an engine up, running wires for a sub, etc. the random small things that most people take for granted because its basic knowledge to them. but to others, that is something that they may not know the least about.
everyone on this site could do some kind of write up, whether it be the magnitude of mike93hatch's cg tranny thread, or so simple as how to change a wiper blade. just because you, and everyone you know could do something with their eyes closed doesnt mean that same exact thing isnt the reason someone came to this site looking for that information.
that doesnt mean everyone should copy and paste any write-up they see that has to do with something honda related, but the site still needs some basic, moderate, and even a few difficult write-ups so that members, new and old, dont have to rely more on google for honda information than the local honda forum.

I'm not a big fan of "tech" articles...because I usually take nothing away from them. Seeing as how this is more of a local message board (I'm assuming this because of the name), wouldn't the "swap party" mentality benefit us all a great deal more? I would much rather be in someone's garage watching/distracting/helping someone build a motor, swap and engine, paint a car, change their oil/brakes/air freshener than read about it with some shitty pictures to follow along with.
Who gives a shit if some knuckleheads from across the country want to search our site for a tech article about god knows what. They would most likely just copy/paste or misquote it on their own local message board anyway.
Put away the Encyclopedia Hondatica, and bring out yer workin clothes and chip-in money for grillins. Summertime is coming, peoples!:assshake:

And once one person does this, there comes a group of followers that will add to it.
There are also some here that don't know what they are talking about, you'll get that with any site though.
