wait, how are you checking the timing when you do it? there should a mark on the lower timing cover that lines up with the single mark on the crank pulley(not the 3 close together) when those 2 are lined up then the marks on the cams should be lined up. i was off a tooth on each cam gear and mine still ran. yes timing can get messed up sometimes. i went out to start my car one day and it turned over hard then cranked just fine but never would start. timing was off far enough it wouldnt run
i may not be "logical" but at least i can change my oil...

I am checking it exactly how you are describing it. The separate mark is lined up with the marker that is on the lower timing cover, and the UP is probably at 11:59 like it says in the Haynes manual. This ish is frustrating. Now all the mechanics I use are no where to be found, the closest one wants 140.00 just to diagnose it and he can't even look at it until Thursday. This is a hyper combo Bullsh.....

well i work at a starter and alternator shop in cape/jackson and the clicking is a sign of low voltage, so it your lights going dim when you are driving? I am guessing that you are only running off battery voltage when you are dtriving it. Your batery could be bad also give it a good charge 2 amp trickle charge for 3-4 hours the battery should b at 12.66 volts at full charge. It should hold around half the cca for 15 seconds and should hold 9.6 volts or better.

I took the alternator to get it checked, and they said it was all good. Also I tried to jump the car from a fresh battery, still would not turn over.

I think the timing belt may be bad. I been recranking it and now it is off. I put it on exactly how the manual says (oil pump, tension, water pump then cam, pully tension then tighten, crank for 3 teeth, loosen, then tight and crank it for like 7 revolutions. Will a bad timing belt slip teeth?

UPdate....

Did compression test......lets just say 1 and 2 laid a nice fat goose egg.... Well I guess I gotta put my rebuild together faster than expected. Quick question. I have some main bearings from a D16Y7. On Advance auto they have the same part number as the Z6 (which is what engine I currently have on the side about to finish), and on Oreilly's their two part numbers match each other. If the bearings are in good condition which after inspection they look like they are, is it safe to reuse them?

Thanks for all the help, if I had a million dollars I would buy everyone their fav beer.

Dont ever reuse bearings just spend the 50-100 and buy brand new bearings that way they can adjust to your engine and actually last not start knocking immidiately.
