Gotta love V-dubs focus on becoming the biggest car manufacturer... they start cutting/modifying standard equipment and make the cars more bland for a broader appeal.5thgen;269578 wrote:It looks kind of bland to me.
Don't get me wrong, I do like the new Passat's looks, but they are losing some individuality. I'm also not a fan of what they are doing with how their cars are optioned and such.
No more 2.0T for the Passat? Lame as hell. I know why they are doing it, but it really is the perfect engine for the car. Drop the VR6 if anything and have an option for a more powerful 2.0T.

I do like it a bit, but I like the old generation better.SweetEBPSi;270257 wrote:No shit considering it looks like a Kia Optima.
I would buy a used 2006-2010 Passat over a new one without question.
I convinced my dad to buy a 2006 two years ago and it's been a great car (he put 80,000 miles on it, so it's had a good test in just two years haha).
The interior materials in spots are cheap as shit (what do you expect in a car that has options from a 30 thousand+ dollar car that's priced in the mid to low 20 thousands?) but other than that it's way better than anything else we drove (Altima, Accord, Maxima, Camry, etc.).

They are trying to get a similar look and body line with all their models. Passat body line even goes into the tails. See the car in person, it blows people away at how bigger and roomy it is. They are leaving the 2.0t out of it bc it's supposed to be a larger more luxury jetta. And the 2012 jetta gli should b out next year.
The new redesigned beetle looks sexy too. I'd own it if I could. The first model being launched Is a special edition turbo coupe.limited edition preorder only

-The 2.5 is cheaper all around.
-The 2.5's power is "acceptable" and it's stats are about in line with the competitions' 4 cylinders.
-Maybe they want to make the 2.0T feel more special?
-Volkswagen is selling it's soul for profit
But everyone will have their own opinion
I don't doubt it's roomy. My dad's is quite big and I know the new one is supposed to be noticeably bigger. I'd definitely be interested to see the difference.

My mom needs a new car at some point and I've been throwing out a few suggestions. She wants something that she can still haul stuff in (she has a Town & Country right now) and gets much better gas mileage.
Been telling her about the Jetta Sportwagon with the TDI. I wish they would continue making the wagon for the Passat. That with the TDI would be right up her alley.
