theres a dent in your oil pan.
he said it only comes on when he gets on it and hits vtec. nothing wrong with the switch. if it was bad the cel would come on when you start the car. and the screen never gets clogged. thats what a oil filter is for and anyways youd have dump handfulls of dirt down the engine to clog that.
trust me, check the bottom of your oil pan.
or better yet put a oil pressure gauge on it and i can almost guarantee you are running some low pressure. so no do not bypass the switch because thats not going to fix your low oil pressure.
not true when the head was just built. his pan may be dented, but it wasnt when it was here.

The oil pressure light isn't coming on Mike. The engine light for VTEC Pressure switch is. When they fail, this happens. Bypassing this switch (since they didn't come with it in Japan, it's not terrible to do this) makes the ECU happy and also your wallet since you don't have to drop money on it.
JDM ECU doesnt even support a VTEC pressure switch nor does it support a CKF.

problem is this engine isnt stock. so the stock ecu is not being used. i dont even know where his stock one is.RyanA;150729 wrote:The oil pressure light isn't coming on Mike. Vtec oil pressure switch...
im just going by the details in this thread.GUNMETAL SI;150695 wrote:not true when the head was just built. his pan may be dented, but it wasnt when it was here.
head was just built? who built it? they didnt take the vtec solenoid assembly off? sounds like more cutting corners when that should have been done when the head was being rebuilt. do it right or do it twice.
i KNOW this. i read the thread. but his oil pressure is low enough to not let vtec engage. hence why the vtec pressure sswitch is tripping a cel once he gets into vtec. he said the cel for the vtec pressure switch came on right after he hit vtec. THAT is not a bad switch. if it was bad it would have came on when you started the car and not when you hit vtec. ive seen alot of bad switches and this is how it was.....i can almost guarantee if you put a oil pressure gauge on the engine, the oil pressure is going to be alot lower than it should be. which is not good and would not be driving it.RyanA;150729 wrote:The oil pressure light isn't coming on Mike. I JUUUUUST had this same problem on my brothers car. exactly the same. his oil pressure light never came on either but it did take a couple seconds for it to go off once you started the car when its usually almost instant. his pan was dented in a alittle. took it off and dented it back out and problem is gone and now vtec works and its not throwing a cel for vtec ps.
im not saying this is his problem. i havent even looked at the car. im just saying this is something to look for.
correct and you can bypass it using a usdm ecu but if i was this guy i WOULD NOT do that as it is not going to be fixing the problem..only way i might do it is only if i knew 110% the switch was just bad. but ive got plenty of switches laying around....RyanA;150729 wrote: JDM ECU doesnt even support a VTEC pressure switch nor does it support a CKF.

well.....then ignore everything ive said in this thread because somebody isnt telling all the details to accurately help them out.

Good point on CEL at VTEC. Loose bearings can cause the low pressure, too. Be it the rods, mains OR worn out cam bearing areas on the head. Out of clearance (too large a gap) could do it too.

So hes using a USDM ECU thats looking for the VTEC oil pressure switch while the motor has the JDM ITR VTEC solenoid that doesn't have a VTEC oil pressure switch?
What does "the motor is not stock" mean? Why not just burn a JDM P73 map onto a chip and disable the check or bypass the VTEC Oil Pressure switch like Ryan said? Or try a VTEC solenoid with a VTEC Oil Pressure switch? Geez. Is it just me or do these solutions seem like they should be obvious?
If those cheap and easy solutions don't work, then go on to considering other things being your problem like the aforementioned dented oil pan and loose bearings, etc.

im not gonna say what i put in the head casue its not my ride. JOHN at lowe did the original tune, i simply fixed a few holes in the map. as far as the switch on the noid, andy was informed by me that i would NOT touch adrenalines wireing problems. iirc, chris hanley went over to lowe, just as i did, only he went to mess with the cars wireing. so look,SilverStreak;150782 wrote:So hes using a USDM ECU thats looking for the VTEC oil pressure switch while the motor has the JDM ITR VTEC solenoid that doesn't have a VTEC oil pressure switch?

1. his pan aint dented
2.there aint a wire for the switch casue it aint there
3. usdm p28 socketed for rom
4. cars got wireing issues
5. ive already told the owner what to do to make sure th pump isnt failing, original head was ruined due to oil starvation.
6. if u got anymore questions ask me, since i obviously know more than what was originally posted!

Vtec oil pressure switch...
im really not gonna read the entire thread, but i had a similar issue with this cell coming on when i first got the swap up and going'
jdm motor=no switch
ecu= looks for switch, then throws a cell
solution=ground the vtec oil pressure switch
now obviously if this is not a jdm motor than you need to check the basics as mentioned, oil pan, filter screen, oil pressure, oil level etc'
ps: that really sucks that adrenaline touched your car'
