About the school question, they don't teach you much of substance its more critical thinking training and on the formula car team I deal most with composites and drive train stuff not engine. Also how much would a turbo set up cost and how much would that take off of the longevity of the car at say 6psi if the car has 160 thousand miles.

turbo set-up could cost 400 bucks or you could spend 5k, that depends on what parts you choose new/used and/or brands etc'. Also depends on if you put the kit together yourself or you buy a kit such as greddy, revhard etc.

6psi dosnt mean anything, 6 psi on a t25 isnt going to be near the power as 6psi on a t3/t4 50 trim, tune for power, not psi...i personally wouldnt push a stock d16 motor past 200whp

160k miles also dosnt mean anything, do a compression check and go from there, there are plenty of motors that have high mileage that are in much more suitable conditions for boost then lower mileage motors...do a compression test and see how she's running

last but not least its a d series, there motors are cheap and everywhere, pick a nice turbo set-up that you will be happy with for a while, tune it, enjoy it and if/when you break it just slap in another d block

just do it right the first time, you will save yourself alot of money, time and headache's, and in the end im sure you will love it'

ps: dont even bother throwing bolt on's on that motor, it is a complete waste of money, the gains will be very minimal and you will spend quite a bit, boost it, swap it, or spray it'

not if its done right. A nitrous setup will cost the same if not more. Sure you can buy a bolt on wet kit and run a 75 shot all day, but that is putting a huge risk. Just like a turbo, there are many supporting mods that are recommended or needed to run nitrous correctly.

Thx for the great advice Digital a turbo sounds like a good idea now I just need to find one and get help installing it. I'm on internship next semester in STL so then I will have the money. Does anyone know someone that does body work because i have a large dent behind my drivers side door (2dr) and if I'm going to spend money turboing it i want it to look good. Also yes it is a 5speed with a new clutch.

you can buy just the turbo for under $1000 in a lot of places... there is no full turbo kit(that I am aware of) that you can buy for >$1000. If that is your budget, you will need to piece together a kit yourself. spend some time on homemadeturbo.com and get a feel for what you are looking for

Hunter Engineering which is near the Airport. They design and manufacturer automotive shop machines like car lifts, tire balancers, brake rotor lathes for high end European cars. Im living near the loop so that should be fun.

closest i have seen is the treadstone kits which are 1899 or something like that..but you still need injectors and engine managment.....
